Glassowa(旧 宗田家住居)

宗田家は江戸時代から道修町で薬種商を営んでいました。宗田治三郎によって1925年に自身の住居として京風の木造町家を新築し、90年以上にわたり大切に住み継がれてきました。老朽化を機に2018年に改修し、先代社長の親戚筋の日本精工硝子によって、ショップ&ギャラリーとして生まれ変わりました。

建物には防空壕として使われた地下倉庫が残り、戦火をくぐり抜けた歴史が静かに息づいています。建築時の図面をもとに、出格子や敷石も忠実に再現しました。ガラスの灯りに包まれる空間は、代々受け継がれてきた想いが息づく場所でもあります。

2025年には築100年、私たち日本精工硝子は創業130年を迎え、金継ぎの第一人者・HIROKI氏監修による金継ぎ体験教室も始動。ガラスも金継ぎも再生の象徴としてサステナブルな社会へ向けて、その価値と魅力を発信していきます。
器に新たな価値を与えるこの体験を通じて、日本の伝統を未来へつなぐ場として進化し続けます。

The Muneta family, once pharmacists in Dōshōmachi since the Edo period, built this Kyoto-style Machiya in 1925.
Cherished for over 90 years, it was restored in 2018 and reborn as a shop and gallery by Japan Seiko Glass Co., Ltd.—a long-established glass bottle manufacturer with family ties to the original owners.
The building still holds traces of its past: a rare underground bomb shelter, and Degoushi (latticed bay window) and stone pavings faithfully recreated from original blueprints.Bathed in the gentle glow of glass, the space carries the quiet spirit and memories passed down through generations.
In 2025, as the Machiya marks its centennial and Japan Seiko Glass celebrates its 130th,We continue to share the beauty of renewal through Kintsugi workshops, supervised by foremost master Hiroki Suezaki and rooted in Japanese tradition.
We share the message of glass and Kintsugi as symbols of renewal, contributing to a more sustainable society.
